Mental Health First Aid training
know what to do when
someone’s struggling.
Most of us would know how to help if someone had a heart attack. Far fewer know how to respond to a panic attack or a friend who seems off. Mental Health First Aid gives you the skills and the confidence to step in.
for anyone who wants to be ready
Mental Health First Aid is for everyone: coworkers, managers, parents, coaches, and friends. Our classes are open to individuals and organizations of all kinds, and golf is where we specialize.
individuals, workplaces & communities
the people who keep the game running
Golf course teams talk to hundreds of people a week, which makes them some of the first to notice when something’s off. We tailor our classes with examples from the course and clubhouse.
the ALGEE action plan
A simple framework for helping someone who may be experiencing a mental health or substance use challenge, in crisis and non-crisis situations.
Learn to recognize when something might be wrong and how to reach out, like noticing changes in someone’s mood, energy, or behavior.
Give someone space to talk openly without fear of being judged, interrupted, or “fixed.”
Help someone feel supported and less alone, and share helpful information in a hopeful, realistic way.
Learn what professional help is out there and how to share it. The earlier someone gets help, the better their chances of recovery.
Help someone build a toolbox of supportive habits, their support network, and community resources.
This framework is about support and connection, not diagnosis.

The training
What does the training look like?
It happens in two parts. First, about 2 hours of self-paced online pre-work through the National Council for Mental Wellbeing, done on your own time before class. Then a full in-person day with us, about 5.5 hours of instruction plus breaks, with conversation, practice scenarios, and a short final quiz.
What’s included?
Access to the online pre-work, the MHFA participant manual and class materials, your three-year certification, and some Casual Friday Golf swag to take home.
Will it feel heavy or emotional?
We talk about real topics like anxiety, depression, substance use, and suicide, but in a supportive and practical way. You can take a break or step out anytime you need to.
Do I have to share my own experiences?
No. Taking part means learning and practicing the skills, not opening up about your own life. Share only what you’re comfortable with.
Who it’s for
Do I need a mental health background?
No. The course is designed for everyday people, not clinicians.
Is this only for people who work in golf?
Not at all. MHFA is for everyone, and our classes are open to anyone. Golf is simply our specialty.
Is this Adult or Youth MHFA?
Our classes are Adult Mental Health First Aid, which focuses on how to help adults 18 and older who may be experiencing a mental health or substance use challenge.
How big are the classes?
Public classes are capped at 15 people, so there’s plenty of room for questions and real conversation.
Certification
What does certification mean?
You’ll be certified as a Mental Health First Aider for three years. MHFA teaches you to recognize and support mental health challenges, so you can better serve your community.
What if I can’t finish the pre-work in time?
Let us know as soon as you can. The pre-work needs to be finished to receive your certification, so we’ll help you move to a future class.
See our training cancellation policy →What happens after three years?
Your certification lasts three years. When it’s getting close to expiring, reach out and we’ll help you find the best way to recertify.
Cost & scheduling
How much does it cost?
Public classes are $250/individual. Private trainings are quoted by group size. Reach out for more questions.
Is there group pricing?
If you have a group that wants to get certified together, a private training is usually the best value. Tell us about your group and we’ll put together a quote.
Request a quote →Can you come to us?
Yes. We travel for private trainings, and travel costs are added to your quote.
Learn about private team training →What if I need to cancel?
Cancel 7 or more days before class, before registration closes, for a full refund or a free transfer to a future class. Within 7 days of class there’s no refund, but you can transfer once to a future public class.
